Classes

Pre-School / Kinderdance (Age 3-5) This program introduces our little ones to the basics of dance which are ballet and tap.  The class runs once a week and is an hour long.  It consists of 1/2 hour of Ballet & 1/2 hour of Tap.  This program is specifically designed to develop a child's skills by teaching them songs and dances that they can understand and relate to while experiencing the wonderful world of dance.

Any of our pre-school/kinderdance instructors, must complete a summer workshop specifically for this age before they can teach with us in September.

Ballet - Tap - Pre-Jazz - Hip-Hop (Ages 6-8) Before going on to full class programs, students age 6-8 can take our 3 class combo which consists of Ballet-Tap & Pre-Jazz. This class runs 1-1/2 hours long.

Individual Classes (Age 8-1/2 & Up) are taught in Ballet / Tap / Jazz / Hip-Hop / Lyrical / Pointe /

Tap - Students are taught the traditional style of tap where they learn all their basic tap moves. From there different styles of tap are introduced to the classes depending upon age. Rhythm tap, contemporary, Broadway style & funk tap are just some of the variations that are brought into our tap program.

Jazz/Hip-Hop - Again all students are taught traditional jazz technique and  stylization. Jazz technique develops strength and coordination, improves muscle tone, and helps build stamina. In hip-hop all the latest styles are taught.  We are careful to select age appropriate music.

These classes are not combined as they are two different styles.

Ballet-Lyrical-Pointe - Whether a student becomes a professional ballerina or not, ballet is important for any child. It helps develop grace, poise, coordination & self-confidence. These benefits will enrich any childxs life. Ballet is the foundation from which all forms of dance originate.
Lyrical is a combination of modern jazz & classical ballet. Students taking lyrical are required to take a ballet class.
Pointe is for students age 13 & older who have had at least 5 consecutive years of ballet training. Not all students are ready for pointe. Students interested in taking pointe must be tested first. Ballet class is also required in order for any student to take pointe.

Hawaiian Dance - Student's learn the graceful art of the hula by learning how to tell a story with their hands and hips. Once this has been mastered they then begin to learn other types of hawaiian dancing such as performing with the puili stick and the uli-uli (feathered gourd) and poi balls. (Age 7 & up)

Tahitian Dance - Teens are introduced to the fast paced rhythm of the tahitian drums. Colorul authentic costumes are worn. (Click on performances / specialty performances to view photos of our Tahitian Dancers in their costumes)

Adult Hip-Hop / Tap - Begining in October we will be offering evening classes for hip-hop or tap for adults. Classes will run for 6 weeks at a time.

About our Staff - We are able to assure quality dance training through the dedication of our qualified staff.  Our teachers are life-long learners who continue to educate themselves through dance teacher training schools, certification programs, workshops and other continuing education opportunities.

About Our Facility -  Our dance studio has two dance rooms with floating hard wood floors. We have a comfortable parent waiting area for anyone wishing to stay. Mirrored walls and permanent barres are in each classroom. We have parking in the front of the building as well as in the back. Our studentsx accomplishments are displayed throughout the studio as well as our membership in various dance organizations and participation certificates.

Our students participate in our annual dance recital which is held in May. The dance recital is optional, however I do encourage students to participate in our year end review as it gives the student something further to strive for.

We also have a dance troupe called "The Starlighters." These students have won numerous awards and have performed & taken class in Europe & Hawaii as well as performed at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Florida and in Epcot. In July 2005 the girls performed at the Palace Theatre aboard Carnival's Fascination. Dance troupe is by audition only and is for the dedicated dancer.

In November of 2007, the dance company participated in the Holiday Parade in Walt Disney World Florida.  They also performed in the dance showcase held in the Magic Kingdom.  They will be returning again in December 2009 to again participate in this holiday weekend.

We have also performed at the Knicks game at Madison Square Garde in March 2007.

We are also involved with the Edison Arts Society. Miss Dawn and I are in charge of overseeing the Holiday Extravaganza which is showcased the first weekend of December.  This production is held at J.P.Stevens HS and is shown on the Edison Network Channel during the months of December & January.

In December 2009 some members of our studio will be participating in Walt Disney World's Holiday Dance Parade. Our students will perform in two parades down Mainstreet USA.  They will take part in the ABC Holiday taping of the show which aires on TV on Christmas Day.
